Regathering Guidelines

Dear church family,

I hope you are all doing well during these unusual days. Like you, I’m certainly looking forward to the day when we can worship together like we used to. As most of you already know, the deacons and I have been discussing when we will be regathering as a church. After consulting with other pastors as well as leaders of the Tennessee Baptist Mission Board, and in concert with Governor Lee’s guidelines for churches, we have set Sunday June 7 as our first Sunday to regather. Please note that June 7 is our target date to regather for morning worship. That could change depending on the status of the pandemic.

We are planning to have worship only on that Sunday at 11:00 a.m. in the family life center. We are meeting there in order to follow the CDC and state guidelines to limit crowds to 50% of the building’s capacity. The family life center will allow us to meet in a larger space that will accommodate more people.

This service will be for worship only. There will be no other services on campus at this time. There will be no Sunday School or evening services. Wednesday night service will continue to be online at Facebook Live.

Like other churches, we will slowly phase in other services and activities until we are back to our normal schedule. This will depend upon how things improve concerning COVID-19. Our goal is to regather slowly and safely and protect the health of those who worship with us.

Our gathering for worship in the family life center is going to be different from what we usually do. There are a number of guidelines that we will be following to ensure that you have a safe time of worship. These guidelines are provided by the state of Tennessee, the CDC and the Tennessee Baptist Mission Board.

I have attached to the back of this letter a listing of those guidelines so you will know what to expect when you come to church June 7.

I look forward to seeing you soon. In the meantime, we will continue online services on Facebook. Thank you for your patience during this time. Stay safe and healthy.

Yours in Christ,

Dr. Mike Melton, pastor

  • Please enter through the main entrance of the family life center only.
  • Everyone is requested to wear a mask or face covering. Pastor and staff will wear one when not on the platform.
  • Temperature checks will be done. Anyone with 100.4 temp or higher will be asked to stay at home. This is the CDC recommendation to prevent spread of COVID-19.
  • Social distancing will be practiced. All seats will be 6 feet apart. People who live in the same house may sit together as a group as long as they remain 6 feet from others.
  • If you are not feeling well, please stay home. If you have a medical condition or disability that weakens your immune system, please stay home (this includes serious respiratory, cardiovascular or immune-compromised conditions.) If you have been in contact with anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19 or you have tested positive, stay home.
  • We will limit the seating to 50% of the capacity of the building.
  • There will be no nursery or children’s church. All children must sit with their parents.
  • Please limit personal contact—no handshaking or hugging.
  • No offering plate will be passed. Receptacles will be available near the doors for you to deposit your offerings.
  • There will be no hymnals or bulletins. All songs and announcements will be projected on a screen. There will be no choir. Soloists and ensembles will be allowed.
  • While sanitizer will be available, you may wish to bring your own.
  • If possible, refrain from using the restrooms. Studies have shown that restrooms can be high transmitters of COVID-19. If you need to use the restroom, please no more than 2 at a time. If a child needs to use the restroom, we ask that a parent accompany them.
  • There will be no public invitation given at the close of the sermon. The pastor will give instructions to those who may have decisions to make.
  • There will be no Sunday School, Discipleship Training or evening worship at the present. Wednesday night prayer meeting will continue to be offered online only.
  • If you don’t feel comfortable coming to public worship at this time, please stay at home. We will be recording the morning worship and posting it online on Facebook.
  • We will be dismissing the congregation in an orderly fashion to allow for continued social distancing.
